Transpersonal research methods for the social sciences: Honoring human experience.
Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage Publications.

Co-authored with colleague William Braud, Transpersonal Research Methods for the Social Sciences has set a standard for research in the field of transpersonal psychology. Intuitive Inquiry, Integral Inquiry, and Organic Inquiry are introduced as research methods uniquely applicable to the study of human and social transformation.

In this book and other writings, we propose a vision for human science research that (a) honors the world’s wisdom psychologies, (b) invites all these psychologies to help us “reinvent” ourselves as a global community, (c) affirms our interdependence on one another and the natural world, (d) furthers the well-being of the natural world, and (e) encourages all people to become perfectly themselves in their own time and place. This transpersonal vision for research includes but expands upon current definitions of transpersonal psychology, which emphasize personal growth and transformation, to community and global transformation that takes place in both individuals and collectives.

Celtic OraclesCeltic Oracles
Anderson, R. (1998). Celtic oracles. New York: Harmony Books/Random House.

Celtic Oracles relays the spirituality and symbols of the Celtic world. Throughout the 1990s, I traveled extensively throughout the mythic Celtic countries—searching, walking, listening, dancing—in search of an ancient way of being. The book begins:

Imagine a way of life in which guidance is formed from the stories told and retold in the night, the images found in the silence of winters, and the whisperings of otherworldly beings hidden but quickening, a little out of sight. My journey for writing this book began nearly twenty years ago when I was living in Germany in a small village above the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar Rivers, once a Celtic stronghold. Memories touched me, like air tendering the skin of a newborn, of an ancient time when the earth was the heart of knowing and its creatures were as familiar to one another as we might be to our friends and lovers. Animals, trees, plants, and spirits invited me to experience their reality, where nothing is lost because they remember even as we forget.
